ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION OF PROFESSIONAL AND AMATEUR SOCCER PLAYERS IN TERMS OF STATUS VARIABLES

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in achievement motivation between the statue variable of being professional and amateur soccer player. The population of this study is created among the active soccer player of 2007-2008 soccer season league teams in Ankara. The sample of the study is consisted from 232 professional and 544 amateur soccer players. The Professional players in the sample of the study are 18-32 aged. The ages of amateur players are changing between 18-33 years. The group has 22.93 average age and 3.77 standard deviation. In the study the data collected by “Achievement Motivation Scale Peculiar to Sports”.At the end of the study, there’s a significant difference in average of scores of professional players’ Power Showing Motive sub factors (t=3.029, p≤0.01). Professional players’ score average (39.50) is higher than amateur players score average (38.78). There’s a significant difference in amateur players’ average of scores in Success Achievement Motive sub factors (t=-2.014, p≤0.05). Amateur players score average (64.04) is higher than professional players’ (63.00) average. There’s a significant difference in average of Power Showing Motive sub factors scores in professional players (t=2.491, p≤0.05). Professional players score average (31.45) is higher than the amateur players’ score average (30.31).
