Adenomatoid odontogenic tumour is a rare tumor comprising of 1% of all jaw tumors benign (hamartomatous), noninvasive lesion with slow but progressive growth. The 3 variants - follicular, extrafollicular and peripheral - present with identical histological findings. This report describes a patient with a adenomatoid odontogenic tumour in the mandible which was detected during routine examination for orthodontic treatment. The paper also provides a refresher for general dental practitioners about various diagnostic aspects of this tumor and highlights the controversies regarding its origin and management in light of recent findings.
