ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between the empowerment perceptions of academicians and their performance. The research data were collected from 403 academicians in 13 state universities with a self-administered questionnaire. In identifying the research participants, a random selection process was used. Factor analysis results showed that empowerment is composed of three factors, meaning-competence, self determination and impact. At the second phase of data analysis, the relationships between the empowerment perceptions and performance were analyzed with multiple regression analysis, one of the key findings of which was that dimensions of meaning-competence is a key determiner of performance.
