ABSTRACT
Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic epithelial tumor. In spite of their benign histological appearance, they possesss infiltrative local behavior. It is responsible for approximately 10% to 30% of all the odontogenic tumors. The jaw is headquarters of 80% of ameloblastomas, being that of these, 70% are in molar region. Had its quiet evolution, ameloblastoma, is usually discovered by X-rays taken for clinical purpose. The classic radiographic aspect of ameloblastoma is a radiolucent area joined or multilocular with cortical expansion. The surgical treatment in virtue of recurrence and aggressivenes potential of ameloblastomas, is very complex varying of boardings conservatives to radical procedures. The aim of this work was to revise the literature regarding the epidemiology, clinical, histopathological and treatment aspects of ameloblastoma.
