In order to evaluate the role of the Specific Prostate Antigen (SPA) as a tumor marker for the detection of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BHP) and Prostate Cancer (PCA) in individuals with obstructive symptoms and low-grade urinary irritation, one hundred serum samples from a male population over 40 years of age residing in Cumaná city, Sucre State were analyzed . Measurement of SPA and its fractions was done by Temporary Resolution of Fluoroimmunoessay. From the total of the analyzed samples, 37% of the patientsshowed high levels of SPA. Ages more likely to develop prostate illness were 71 to 80 years. 7% of patients had PCA, and 10% BPH.
