ABSTRACT
This research was conducted to develop a valid and reliable likert type scale to measure the perceptions of students towards moral virtues expected from academic staff in higher education. 242 students from Faculty of Education in Harran University constitue the study group of this research. In this study Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) and Barlett test, factor analysis, simple component analysis and varimax rotation techniques were utilized. According to the exploratory factor analysis results, the scale consists of seven factors including: respect, justice, loyalty, courage, honesty, grace, and trust with a total of 50 five-Likert type items. Total variance explained was computed as 65.5%. Item factor loadings in the related scale range from 0.30 to 0.78. It was found out for sub scale of scale between 0.72 and 0.95 and the level of 0.97 for whole scale. Results of analysis revealed that Moral Virtues Scale is a valid and reliable scale can be used in higher education.
