ABSTRACT
Rotor vibration analysis is a critical step in the design of any rotor system. This analysis guides the selection of rotor stiffness properties, rotor geometry, and the bearing and suspension properties. In large rotating machinery such as turbine, generator and aero engine the rotor is one of the most important parts. The present work deals with the dynamic vibration analysis of a rotor system (beam element) with different degrees of freedom. The dynamic or forced vibration equation has been considered and solved using Houbolt Time Marching Technique, the same has been coded using the programming language Matlab. This code can be lucidly extended to any degrees of freedom depending on the system of interest and the precision. The use of Matlab in rotor dynamic vibration analysis reduces the time for computing the matrix calculations for systems with many degrees of freedom. The work mainly deals with the behaviour of a beam element with 4 degrees of freedom under the forced vibration condition. The vibrations in the element are due to the applied forcing frequency.
