Soil is constantly evolving under the influence of both environmental factors and humanactivities. Because of strong industrialization in the past, Romania is among those European countriesthat have large areas contaminated by industrial waste, containing hazardous chemicals. The paper is anoverview of thermal desorption methods used for the treatment of soils contaminated with hazardouschemicals such as mercury or DDT and will emphasize the optimal conditions for conducting thermaldesorption.
