ABSTRACT
En montagne, la production et le transport de sédiments par les torrents en crue sont générateurs de risques importants, susceptibles de porter atteinte à la sécurité des personnes et des biens. Afin de mieux comprendre les systèmes complexes mis en œuvre lors de ces phénomènes, les auteurs proposent ici différentes approches géomorphologiques de la production sédimentaire des torrents, en présentant quelques cas concrets dans les Alpes françaises.The sediment yield of torrents, defined here as the sediment transport at the apex of the alluvial fan, is the resultant of a complex system that integrates the geomorphic dynamics of hillslopes, the hillslope-channel coupling, and the sediment routing in channels. Its characterization implies to integrate the multiplicity of processes that interveen in the inner sediment transfers of torrent systems. The geomorphology proposes an indirect way to deal with this issue, by assessing fluxes from forms. The objective of this paper is to present the state of the art of geomorphological approaches and to present some case studies in the French Alps.
