ABSTRACT
This paper aims to study the origins and characteristics of the representation of Marcus Tullius Cicero (103-46 BC) in textbooks on Universal History used in Secondary Education during the First Republic of Brazil (1889-1930), as well as use of this representation in the Brazilian republican national identity construction in early twentieth century.
