This study discusses a method for the automaticdesign of injection-mold cooling channels using geneticalgorithms (GA), the finite element method (FEM), and anevaluation function based on unsteady state heat transfer andlinear static deformation. The uniformity of cooling and thedeformation effect of the automatically designed cooling channelin the injection mold were examined through case studies basedon numerical analysis. The genetic algorithm was applied in thefollowing steps: generation of finite elements of individualsexpressing different cooling channel shapes, the definition of thefitness function to evaluate individuals, the genetic operation forindividuals, and modification to the automatically generatedcooling channel shape. Finally, the automatically generatedshape of the cooling channel is discussed and compared withmanually designed cooling channels.
