ABSTRACT
The marine fungi occurring in the sediment samples were studied. Diversity of marine fungi colonizing the sediment samples was assessed and their distribution pattern was determined. Thirty six species of marine fungi were recorded from the sediment samples collected from the intertidal regions of the Adirampattinam coast. They are categorized in to common (31-40%), frequent (21-30%), occasional (11-20%) and rare (1-10%). Aspergillus fumigatus was recorded as common, Penicillium luteum Penicillum expansum, Penicillium granulatum, Geotrichum candidum,                 Acremonium sp and Aspergillus flavus as frequent, Acrophilophra fusispora,            Absidia glauca sp. and Fusarium oxysporum as occasionally and the remaining species as rare.
