ABSTRACT
Setting: The film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, was shot in 1919. That year, the German Work Party was founded, andAdolf Hiltler became a member of it. Both the premiere of the film and the first political meeting of the party –in whichHitler participated – took place in February 1920. 1st Thesis: Hitler must have seen the film shortly after the premiere, and it played an important role in the way his paranoid delusion ended up crystallizing. 2nd Thesis: There exists a similar structure between the film text, Hitler’s delusion and Schreber’s delusion. 3rd Thesis: The three cases enable us toclear up a diffuse form of paranoia that pervaded Europe in the period preceding the Second World War outbreak.
