Chemical composition of essential oils of Galium tunetanum Poiret and Galium mollugo L. in Algeria

ABSTRACT
The extraction of the essential oils by hydrodistillation of areal parts of Galium tunetanum, endemic to Algeria, and Galium mollugo give a average oil yield of 0.07%. 33 compounds were characterized; representing 96.37% of the total oil of G. tunetanum and 30 compounds represented 95.52% of the total oil of G. mollugo. The species studies are very riche in palmetic acid (25.71-24.55%), ethyl linoleolate (12.33-9.11%), 1,2-benzendicarboxylic acid-bi (9.23-7.92) and tetradecanal (5.45-14.8%) respectively. G. tunetanum differs from G. mollugo by the presence of linoleic acid (4.27%) pentacosane (3.49%) and 4-hydroxy-4 methyl (2.93%). G. mollugo is individualized by the presence of high rate of nonanal (4.27%), phenol (3.07%), 8,11-octadecanoic acid (9,05%), 1-hexadecanone (2.3%) and the decucl-aldehyde (1.57%).
