ABSTRACT
The chest pain can be a symptom of many diseases and can refer to various organs. One of its most common cause is the ischemic heart disease, especially acute coronary syndrome. Case of 88-year-old woman, with the chest pain, who was admitted to the John Paul II Hospital in Kraków. Initially, on the basis of the clinical course and ECG changes the myocardial infarction with ST-segments elevation was diagnosed. The results of imaging studies have not confirmed the primary diagnosis. The coronary angiography revealed no atherosclerotic lesions in the coronary arteries. Ventriculography and echocardiography was performed, and eventually the tako-tsubo syndrome was diagnosed, also known as stress cardiomyopathy or apical ballooning syndrome. Cases of the takotsubo syndrome described in the literature mostly regard to the women in a postmenopausal age. In the literature there are only very few cases of takotsubo syndrome in octogenarians and to our knowledge none was described in Polish patient.
