ABSTRACT
This article takes into account the conception of literacy in its social and cognitive dimension, and its implications to the teaching of language at schools, mainly in relation to the production of written texts. The sociointeractionist theoretic support permits that we perceive the importance of genre texts as a legitimate and efficient instrument to improve literacy and the competences of reading and writing as social practices among the users of a language. So, in order to orientate the teaching practice, it is necessary for the teachers the study of a theory to guide their methodological practices.
