INTRODUCTION: It has been reported that following a catastrophicevent, the reasons for consultation in the emergencydepartment change, increasing the number of attentions fortrauma and cardiovascular diseases. There are few records ofthis issue. The objective was to describe the urgency attentionsat Hospital de Hualañé, 7th region (Maule) of Chile one weekbefore, 48 hours and one week immediately after the earthquakeof February 27th, 2010. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We use theregistry book of Hospital de Hualañé emergency department.Established categories according to complaint, sex and age. Wecovered all of consultants between February 20th and March6th, 2010. RESULTS: The final sample of 614 patients. In thefirst 48 hours after the earthquake it noticed an increase intrauma consultations (38%), surgical consultations (700%) andcases of panic attack (1% to 18% before). During the followingweek, the distribution tended to normalize, but queries for panicdisorder remained high (17%). The age and sex ratio remainedthroughout the study period. DISCUSSION: Our study addsa small sample of the disaster in Chile in 2010. The results areconsistent with previuos studies in terms of increased traumaand consultation distressing. Limitations: no time to collectdata, categorical ratings. It remains to examine whether the patternrepeats itself in places that suffered the tsunami.
