ABSTRACT
The objectives of this doctoral work are to project anoverall scheme of estimating vehicle characteristics fromvideo sequences, to analyze errors arising in the estima-tion process, estimate expected accuracy limits and rec-ommend suitable scene conguration for getting reliableresults and to statistically evaluate the characteristics ofa vehicle eet and formulate recommendations for gen-erating vehicles in microscopic simulation models. Thework proposes a methodology for estimation of the param-eters necessary to calibrate microscopic simulation sys-tems. The methodology consists in analysis and congu-ration of a trac scene, evaluation of vehicle parametersfrom video sequences and the statistical preparation ofthe obtained vehicle parameters for the input of a micro-scopic system. The proposed methodology is not relatedto any specic simulation system or to any specic videosystem for trac monitoring. The work aims to give anindependent method for choosing the equipment, videoprocessing methods and the methodology for conguringthe tracs scene and evaluation of the vehicle parametersin order to fulll the required accuracy constraints.
