The architect puts down his ideas in a physical representation both to register its thoughts and to discover new possibilities starting from the cues provided by the own drawing. The conceptual sketches are artifacts closer to the thought. They are exploratory registers, whose ambiguity stimulates imagination. The uncertainty is inherent to the creation process, what it favors the production of different ideas and stimulates the creativity. The aim in this paper is to analyze the cognitive processes during the production of sketches in the initial phase of the design process and to verify how ideas and knowledge emerge in the creative act.
