Ichnocarpus frutescens commonly known as Krishna sariva in Sanskrit and as Kalisar in Hindi, is a well known ayurvedic plant found throughout india. It has beenwidely used in traditional medicine for the treatment of variety of diseases. The roots of this plant are well studied for their demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic andother medicinal properties but the aerial parts (stem and leaves) are nearly virgin. The aim of present study was to gather information for the systematicidentification and authentication of this particular species and pharmacognostic standardization of aerial parts (stem & leaves) of this plant as per WHO guideline.The result obtained in the present investigation could be useful in the industry for the identification, authentication & quality of the commercial samples suppliedby suppliers. The data of the present study will be used for making monograph on this plant for different pharmacopoeias & official books.
