The Library of the Veterinary University Hannover Foundation, which was founded subsequently to the installation of the Royal “Roßarzney-Schule” (Horse-Medicine-School) in the year of 1778, is the largest of its kind in the German-speaking countries. It has received funding from the German Research Society since 1949 to help augment its holdings in Veterinary Medicine and General Parasitology. In return it is obliged to make the holdings available to interlibrary lending in Germany. Consequently and logically more services have been introduced over time. Journals holdings were catalogued into the “Zeitschriftendatenbank“ (journals database), dissertation were transformed into microforms, a Virtual Library of Veterinary Medicine and General Parasitology was installed, the library joined a document-delivery service and is currently digitizing old monographs.
