ABSTRACT
To what degree is teacher education preparing for the new challenges of education? What knowledge and competencies do teacher’s need today? By locating some challenges to teacher education, this article emphasizes the importance of cultural education and the presence of media-education in Teacher Education. Considering transversality and the multidisciplinary contribution of knowledge from the sciences of education and communication, media-education can be understood as a ‘frontier-object’, an interface that can interpret aspects of the current transformation of knowledge that are not limited to school education. In this sense, the paper discusses the possibility of education for, with and through the media, articulating a perspective of working with multiple languages in the school and in education. Finally, it emphasizes the need to configure other spaces and methodologies for considering aspects of educational praxis in which cultural education, multiple languages and the proposal for workshops for production and reflection can configure new forms of mediation in contemporary educational situations.
