Effect of Peristrophe bicalyculata on Blood Pressure, Kidney and Liver Functions of Two Kidney One Clip (2K1C) Hypertensive Rats

ABSTRACT
The aqueous, butanolic and methanolic fractions of Peristrophe bicalyculata were accessed for their effect on the arterial blood pressure, liver enzymes and some kidney parameters in hypertensive rats. Forty rats were divided into nine groups of five rats each: control, hypertensive control, Standard (enalapril 3.8 mg/kg), methanolic extract (100 and 200 mg/kg), butanolic extract (100 and 200 mg/kg) and aqueous extract (100 and 200 mg/kg). All rats, except control group were made hypertensive using the Goldbatt Two Kidney One Clip (2K1C) method. Administration of extracts began four weeks after induction of hypertension, and lasted for two weeks. Blood pressure was determined before inducing hypertension, and then weekly after the induction.
