EFFECTS OF MAXIMUM EXERCISE INTENSITY ON VISUAL REACTION TIME OF ELITE FENCERS

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of maximum exercise intensity on visual reaction time of elite Türkish fencers. Nine male fencers with mean age of 17,00±1,00, mean weight of 62,67±6,36 kg., mean height of 176,00±4,48 cm and 9 female fencers with mean age of 16,56±1,13, mean weight of 60,10±4,82 kg., mean height of 168,44±2,24 cm participated in the study.Astrand Bicycle ErgometerTest (with Monark Ergomedic 839E) was used to reach the maximum exercise intensity of the participants. Heart rates of the participants were recorded constantly with a Polar watch. Maximum exercise intensity was calculated by using Karvonen method, dominant hand visual reaction time was measured during the test by using Newtest Reaction Timer. The data obtained from the study was analyzed with t-test SPSS (14.0) Package Program.As result of this analysis ıt was found that visual reaction time of male and female fencers were significantly increased in maximal exercise intensity.As conclusion, it could be said that maximum exercise intensity has negative effects on visual reaction time of elite Turkish Fencers.
