ABSTRACT
This work aimed at reflecting about the contents of the disciplines which comprise the area of natural sciences and their technologies – Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The challenge was launched. Researchers in the field point out that the approach of these disciplines should address current issues and everyday life of the student. Thus, some possible solutions to the challenge stand out, for example, the perspectives of the relation Science-Technology-Society (STS) and of the area of research in Physics education which seeks the inclusion of Modern and Contemporary Physics in high school. From these approaches, some difficulties can be pointed out, for instance, the dense language in which scientific knowledge is disclosed when compared to the language of the content traditionally taught in High School. This data revealed that addressing current issues in classroom is not something that can be made directly. Thus, it was adequate to highlight aspects that should be considered in the planning of Physics, Chemistry and Biology classes and to show some characteristics of the audience of Brazilian school through the School Census statistics of Basic and Higher Education which are annually published by National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP).
