Biodiesel is an oxygenated fuel produced from the transesterification of triglycerides present in vegetable oils and animal fats. The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) set the properties to be used for quality control of biodiesel, among these there is the kinematic viscosity. Its control ensures proper operation of the injection systems and fuel pumps. This paper present the comparative study of statistical models for viscosity reduction in mixtures of types of biodiesel (castor and soybean), using a response surface methodology - RSM, based on factorial designs. In determining the viscosity there was a 22 factorial design, using as limits of minimum and maximum range the following parameters: temperature 30 ºC and 50 ºC and concentration of biodiesel blend benchmark against 25% and 75%. Through the RSM, it was possible to predict the best way to get a biodiesel with lower viscosity.
