ABSTRACT
The present article aims at discussing M. Gueroult's Fichte et Schopenhauer, which deals with some decisive differences between the two philosophers. Gueroult's view is that, contrary to Fichte, Schopenhauer's solution to the problem of the ding an sich, as posed by Kant, is inconsistent with philosophical idealism. Recognizing the merits of Gueroult's thesis, our purpose is to show , through a careful analysis of Schopenhauer's conception of Ich, that his strength lies precisely in the departure from the fichtean version of idealism.
