Eclipta prostrata Linn. [Asteraceae] popularly known as “Bhringaraj” is a very useful medicinal plant in India. The aim of the present study was to evaluatethe anti-inflammatory activity of ethanolic extract of root part of Eclipta prostrata in rats. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by employing acuteinflammatory model; Carrageenan induced paw edema and Sub-acute inflammatory model; formalin induced paw edema. The study was carried out by usingadministered dose of 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg body weight of ethanolic extract orally. The extract showed significant anti inflammatory activity as comparedto Diclofenac sodium (5mg/kg body weight) in both the models in a dose dependent manner. The percentage inhibition was calculated and compared with thestandard drug and control.
