ABSTRACT
The paper has three objectives. First, to sketch a picture of the average Filipino visitor to Japan based on the latest available Japanese immigration data. Second, to examine the realities suggested by the statistical data, and to determine the extent to which these are perceived and experienced by Filipinos living and working in Japan. Third, to understand how Filipino migrant workers attempt to protect themselves against the various forms of vulnerability that characterize their general situation in Japan.
