ABSTRACT
This paper seeks to discuss the approach to teaching the average level of Romanticism, from a theoretical-critical that focuses on the interpretation of the ruins, the counterface of a romantic mirage of Brazilianness, in many textbooks crystallized by treatment of the subject . As a general objective, we hope to contribute not only to look with a review of the school which immobilizes the nineteenth-century style, but also for the construction of alternatives in the study of our literary history, supported by authors who have thought and rethought , at different times, the romantic ideals of a nation. In this dialogue is still expected to point a possible way of teaching an action that by putting our students in front of the dilemmas and impasses of the past, help them to exercise critical thinking in the present and future.
