ABSTRACT
Autobiographical memory may be defined as memoryof individual past. People are conscious only ofautobiographical memories that are constructed frominformation saved in long-term memory.Autobiographical memories are registered in threedistinct data bases referring to life periods, repetitivegeneral events and specific events. There is clearaffective asymmetry consisting in more frequentretrieving positive events in comparison to negativeevents (positivity bias). Functioning of autobiographicalmemory changes during the course of life. First threeyears of life are characterized as childhood amnesia. After 50 years effect of reminiscence bump may beobserved. People are prone to retrieve data from periodbetween 10 and 30 year of life very easily.Phenomenon of false memory was analyzed. It isstressed that study of autobiographical memory ispartly independent of classical experimental studies onmemory. Working memory and metamemory studiesare also considered.
