ABSTRACT
This article highlights a historical reflection on the modalities of institutional care for abandoned children in Brazil and demonstrates how aid practices have repercussions on children with forms of violence done by the families, the Church and the State. Inserted into this perspective, it is proposed an analysis of the process of a child sheltered in2001 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais.
