Keywords: Max Weber | Shakespeare | politics as a profession

The purpose of this article is to identify and explain the ideas underlying the images that Max Weber uses to make up his concept of political vocation. When he intends to outline such notion in the last lines of his conference “Politk als Beruf ”, he does it by using a highly aesthetic and cryptic language. This article takes this peculiarity into account and it tries, as far as possible, to turn the metaphors into concepts with the practical purpose of helping the reader to unravel the message that Weber wanted to transmit to his interlocutors. If this essay reaches its objective, it will be at the cost of tarnishing the plasticity of the images used by the German sociologist to point out his ideological platform.
