ABSTRACT
This study has been done to find out whether job satisfaction levels of physical education teachers in BALIKESİR is related with variations of their gender, service length, age, salary and the usage of tools and equipment or not.The scope of this study has been formed with 106 physical education teachers serving in primary and secondary schools in Balıkesir between the years 2004 and 2005. Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, that of its reliability and validity studies have been done by Gokçor has been applied to the teachers in 20 likert type questions to examine their job satisfaction. Obtained data has been evaluated by percentage, frequency, Anova and T-test analysis.In modern societies, physical education and sport activities play an important role for the development of an individual in physically, mentally, socially, morally, both in general education system and in the other parts of the social life. Physical education is an inevitable part of the education. If physical education courses are conducted through the expectations of the society, physical education teachers and the individual, both the efficiency and the satisfactions of the physical education teachers will rise.When the job satisfaction of physical education teachers in Balıkesir has been examined as internal and external factors, both factors are generally between the line of ‘I am pleased’. A difference has been determined in the variables of age, adequacy of salary, tools and equipment that are effecting the job satisfaction levels of physical education teachers. While these differences has been defined in ‘Yes’ level with the mean of X:4,20 in the external factor of salary adequacy variable, the ratio in ‘No’ is X:2,93. There is a meaningful difference between the answers ‘No’ and ‘Partially’ ( X:3,67). When the thoughts of the have been determined on the adequacy of tools and equipment, a meaningful difference has been identified in the internal factor between the values ‘partially adequate ‘ with mean of with the mean of X:4,26 and ‘not adequate’ with the mean of X:3,91. When the age variable has been determined, teachers have indicated their thoughts as’ I am pleased’ in the 25-30 age group in the external factor with the mean of :3,89 and it has also been identified that this age group is meaningfully more pleased than the age groups of 36-41( X:3,17) and 42 and over. ( X:3,29).
