ABSTRACT
The present essay discusses the historiographical perceptions of Fernand Braudel regarding three civilizational sets: the Mediterranean, the Africa, and the Atlantic. We may define Professor Braudel¿s lessons through his experience with history teaching and historical research, primarily, in Argelia, then, in France and Brazil. When he returned from his homeland continent, Europe, to finish writing his doctorate thesis - concluded just after the end of the Second World War and the beginning of decolonizing process in the African and Asian continents - Professor Braudel became the exponent of a structuralistic and historical culture in the subsequent decades. From this, we can comprehend his historiographical undertakings beyond his greatest passion, the Mediterranean, as well as, systematize his important contributions to the study of the Atlantic world and, specially, to the study of the black Africa.
