ABSTRACT
Nontuberculous mycobacteria are ubiquitous environmentalorganisms that have been recognized a causeof pulmonary infection or disease for over 50 years. Traditionallypatients have had underlying risk factors fordevelopment of disease; however, to describe of apparentlyimmunocompetent patients involved appears to bepossible. The diagnosis of culture-positive all patients formycobacteria have to evaluate according to 2007 criteria. For patients with disease, combination antibiotic therapyfor 12-24 months is generally required for successfultreatment. However, there is a poor correlation betweenin vitro antibiotic susceptibility and in vivo response toantimicrobials. Therefore, the lung diseases due to nontuberculousmycobacteria are an increasing problem forclinicians and are associated with significant obstaclesthat thwart successful treatment of the diseases due tonontuberculous mycobacteria. Continued progress indiagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment of disease willimprove the outlook for these patients.
