ABSTRACT
Employing aerial photographic survey and photointerpretation over an area of aproximatly 300 Ha in a portion of the semi arid region of the Chama midle river basin (Munic. Sucre, State of Mérida -Venezuela-); a Physiographic-Vegetation map was elaborated on a final area of 174,37 Ha, using a scale of 1:5.000. In thismap, five physiographic types can be distinguished, with 11 kinds of vegetation and 28 Vegetation-Physiographic units. The terrains on slopes comprises the largest surface, and the most common vegetation unit is the arborescent cacti community known as "Cardonal", especially those that form open canopies (less than 50%). The dominating vegetation on the slopes are the "Cardonales", whilst the thorn shrubs or "Espinares" occur in a larger proportion on the lowland terrains. The Vegetation-Physiographic units that occupy the largest extension are the open and interrupted "Cardonales" on the slopes, covering almost a 40% of the total surface of the mapped area
