ABSTRACT
The mollusc fauna from the Lower Pannonian of Mataschen (Styria, Austria) is described. A correlation of the low diversity fauna with the Mytilopsis ornithopsis Zone (~Pannonian “Zone B” sensu Papp 1951a) can be based on the rare occurrence of the index fossil Mytilopsis ornithopsis (Brusina, 1892). Thus, the correlation of the pelites with the Eisengraben Member and the Sieglegg Member of the Feldbach Formation as proposed by Gross (2004) is confirmed.
