ABSTRACT
Streams that pass through urban centers in its waters carry domestic sewage and industrial effluents, which may contain heavy metals. This study aimed to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals from water in the region of Novo Hamburgo - RS. The monitoring was carried out from May 2006 to May 2007 in Pampa stream and in the Sinos river, upstream from the mouth of the stream, with samples spaced by approximately 45 days. Determinations of water quality parameters of nickel, chromium and lead were made by the Central Analytical Center of the University Feevale at three points in the Pampa stream and upstream from the mouth of the brook, the river of the Bells. The influence of stream water in the Rio dos Sinos, from the collection of Municipal Sanitation Company, using data from this company and the State Environmental Protection Henrique Luiz Roessler - RS, entities that monitor the point of withdrawal of water. The waters of the Pampa stream had, in some samples, high levels of chromium and nickel. This finding requires preventive care as the influence of industrial effluents in the waters of the Pampa stream, to avoid impacts on waters of the Rio dos Sinos.Key-words: water quality; monitoring; Pampa Stream.
