ABSTRACT
This article deals with the exploration voyages made by Spanish steerJosé de Moraleda through the Pacific Ocean between 1772 and 1810. Based on the study of his travel accounts, the article analyzes a historical juncture in which scientific advances and the use of modern methods of “astronomic navigation,” contributed to the geographic reconnaissance of America.
