ABSTRACT
Objective: to detect and reflect on the competence and skill of nurse in managing conflicts in the Nursing staff. Methods: descriptive study of bibliographical review, which were consulted through descriptors: conflict, negotiation, management and nursing, articles in publications nationwide, published between the years 2003 and 2007, using the online databases Scientific Electronic Library Online. Among the publications were found thirteen published studies, with seven articles selected for this study, by addressing issues relevant that deserve consideration for the understanding of managing conflicts in the nursing staff. In addition to these references, we used two specific in the area of Nursing Administration. Results: it were identified the follows aspects: concepts and management functions, skills and competencies of the nurse manager, proposals and trends in contemporary management. Conclusion: it was possible to observe from these analyses that these interpersonal and/or intergrupais conflicts are situations arising from the influence of events stressors in the world and life of people at their works, very often within this organization, so that the nurse needs to develop skills / expertise to manage them. That means being humble to learn, and team spirit and good relationships, dealing with differences, having mutual understanding and balance between reason and emotion.
