ABSTRACT
Although the daily clinical use of the immunosuppressant rapamycin continuously increases, certain reluctance still inhibits the widespread use of the relatively new drug, mainly due to the short period of experience and the concerns about undesired adverse effects, which have in part been reported to end in severe clinical courses. Therefore this article focuses on the new research developments in regard of rapamycin effects on ischemia and reperfusion, tolerance induction and tumor genesis/-progress, as well as benefits and risks of the treatment of patients with proteinuria, chronic allograft nephropathy, virus infection and also under pregnancy and lactation, which become apparent besides of large clinical trials.
