ABSTRACT
Chronic non-cancer pain is widely diffused in elderly, mainly as concern the degenerative pathology of the musculoskeletal system, where there are concomitant effects of arthrosis, arthritis and osteoporosis. It must be carefully evaluated and adequately treated because some patients may undergo a complete loss of autonomy and, in extreme cases, death.Chronic pain, having critical rebounds in social life, bring a remarkable worsening of patient’s wellbeing. Several controls have been made about the underestimation and the inadequate treatment of chronic pain in elderly; this provide some of the data reported in this relation. Some other data are reported on therapies (mainly pharmacological, but also psychological) headed to reduce the pain intensity.
