The production of extra cellular lipase in Solid State Fermentation(SSF) using Yarrowia lipolytica NCIM 3589 withNiger seed oil cake (Guizotia abyssinica) has been made.Different parameters such as incubation time, inoculumlevel, initial moisture content, carbon level and nitrogen levelof the medium were optimized. Screening of various processvariables has been accomplished with the help ofPlackett–Burman design. The maximum lipase activity of26.42 units per gram of dry fermented substrate (U /gds)was observed with the substrate of Niger seed oil cake infour days of fermentation. STATISTICA 6.0 was used forimplementing Plackett–Burman design.
