in digital communication systems, channel codingis the method of adding redundancy to the data in order toreduce the frequency of errors or to increase the capacity of achannel. Concatenated codes are the most superior class ofcodes making achievable channel capacity almost at par withthe Shannon limits. Concatenated codes are error correctingcodes constructed by combining two or more simple codesthrough an interleaver in order to obtain powerful codingschemes. In this paper a special construction of concatenatedconvolutional coding scheme called parallel-serialconcatenated convolutional code (P-SCCC) is presented. Theupper bound to the bit error probability of the proposed code isevaluated. Results showed that the error performance of thisproposed code scheme is better than that of both classical serialand parallel concatenated convolutional codes. Theperformance of the proposed code has been studied withdifferent types of digital modulation schemes.
