ABSTRACT
Recent advancements in network technology allowintegration of different services on the same networkinginfrastructure. Thus, voice, data and video or multimediatraffic share the same transmission, switching and storageresources over a single network. This integration offers theuser a single access facility to all communication servicesthrough a unified interface. Since AsynchronousTransmission Mode (ATM) networks support diverseservices such as voice, data, video etc., therefore, ATM hasbeen chosen for the use in the Broadband IntegratedService Digital Networks (B-ISDN).In this paper, we have developed a queuing model for theATM networks in which three types of traffic e.g. voice,data, and video are considered. We analyze a discrete timesingle-server (GI/1/1) queuing system with three priorityqueues of infinite capacity. The waiting time distribution forthe packets in each class is derived explicitly. We have alsoderived expressions for probability generating function ofthe system contents along with the packet delay of theseclasses considered in the study.
