ABSTRACT
The Leaves of Coccinia indica are reported to have good medicinal values in traditional system of medicine. Oral administration of the ethanolic extract of Coccinia indica Wight & Arn leaves (200 mg/kg body weight, CLEt) for 45 days to diabetic rats decreased the concentrations of blood glucose, lipids and fatty acids, viz., palmitic, stearic, and oleic acid whereas linolenic and arachidonic acid and plasma insulin were elevated[1]. The present study highlights the Pharmacognostical as well as phytochemical studies including parameters such as macroscopic, microscopic characters, Physical evaluation and preliminary phytochemical studies of the leaves. These observations will help in the Pharmacognostical identification and standardization of the drug in the crude form and also to distinguish the drug from its adulteration.
