ABSTRACT
An important aspect of the secular context of the contemporary modern world is emphasized by various authors, that is the transfer of symbolic power from religion towards the political ideologies. The national ideology enjoys a particular place. Under the circumstances of the cohabitation between the religious minorities and the majority within the national state, solutions must be found so as to ensure the ground for religious pluralism and freedom. The paper in question aims at analyzing within the Romanian context the pre-requisites which will render possible the cohabitation and the mutual recognition between the minority groups and the Orthodox majority. Due to the cultural diversity of Romania, the state has to elaborate multicultural policies in order to ensure the opportunities for affirming the plural religious identities which can be found within the national state.
