ABSTRACT
The trends of informatisation and modernisation of new technologies have been analysed intensely and the debates on their impact and effects on the individual’s private life have led to clear measures being adopted as regards the fundamental human rights and liberties. The reform of the legal framework of the European Union for the electronic communications’ networks and providers represents an important step forward towards achieving an unique European information space and, at the same time, of an informational society which is accessible to everyone.Romania has adopted a series of regulations which define basic principles in protecting the person’s rights, especially of the right to private life, the right to image or freedom of expression, with regard to the diverse ways in which personal data are processed. In this respect, Law no. 506/2004 on the processing of personal data and the protection of private life within the electronic communications’ sector, as amended and modified , regulates, in accordance with community law, the processing of personal data within the electronic communications’ sector and the sanctions applicable to those that infringe upon the private life.
