ABSTRACT
In a competitive business landscape, large organizations suchas insurance companies, banks etc are under high pressure toinnovate, improvise and differentiate their products andservices while continuing to reduce the time-to market for newproduct introductions. For example, in banks operatingmultiple lines of businesses, generating a Single view of thecustomer is a critical from different perspectives due thesystems developer over a period of time and existence ofdisconnected systems with an enterprise. Therefore to increaserevenues and cost optimization, it is important build enterprisesystems more closely with the business requirements with reuseof existing systems. While building distributed basedapplications, it is important to take into account the provenprocesses like Rational Unified Process (RUP) to mitigate therisks and increase the reliability of the system. Experience indeveloping applications in Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) withcustomized RUP is presented in this paper. RUP is adoptedinto an onsite-offshore development model along with ISO9001and SEI CMM Level 5 standards. This paper providesRUP approach to achieve increased reliability with higherproductivity with lower defect density and competitivenessthrough cost effective custom software solutions.
